MUSIC

The study of music is part of the curriculum for EYFS, KS1 and KS2 pupils.  We use a very comprehensive scheme from Kapow Primary (used in over 2,200 schools nationally).  The scheme of work enables pupils to meet the end of Key Stage Attainment targets outlined in the National Curriculum.  We cover the following skills using the Kapow teaching framework and associated resources:

Performing

Listening

Composing

The history of music

Inter-related dimensions of music: pulse, pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure, appropriate musical notation.

Our intention for all pupils:

Through our entire curriculum, of which Music is an important part, we intend to:

raise the children’s self-esteem and confidence
provide a range of first-hand experiences
encourage engagement with the local community
provide a clear progression in skills and knowledge
be inclusive, so that all pupils can achieve their full potential
foster Christian virtues and develop the social skills and awareness needed to be effective citizens

Our children will be taught Music in a way that ensures progression of skills, and follows a sequence to build on previous learning.

Our children will gain experience and skills of a wide range of dimensions of music in a way that will enhance their learning opportunities, enabling them to use music in a wide variety of contexts, ensuring they make progress.
