What is the Sports Premium?

The government are spending over £450 million on improving physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools over the 3 academic years 2013 to 2014, 2014 to 2015 and 2015 to 2016. A recent announcement suggests this will be extended to 2020. Schools have been given the control over how the money will be spent within the parameters of strict government criteria. Here at St. Luke’s we are committed to delivering a wide ranging PE curriculum that is engaging and high in quality. This year we have been allocated £9275, this sports premium money will allow us to further strengthen the quality of our PE lessons and also widen the opportunities available to children in lessons and at play times and encourage them to lead healthy lifestyles.

P.E. National Curriculum Aims:

  • Competent pupils able to excel in a broad range of physical activities.
  • Pupils have the ability to be physically active for sustained periods of time.
  • Pupils to be able to engage in competitive sports and activities.
  • Pupils to be supported to lead healthy and active lifestyles.

St Luke’s PE and Sport Vision Statement

We believe that Physical Education and sport play a vital role in the physical, social, emotional and intellectual development of children. Physical Education and sport are central in giving children the knowledge and understanding in order to make a positive impact on their own health and well-being. The physical education curriculum at St. Luke’s aims to provide children with the opportunity to take part in a wide range of sports and physical activities, carried out in a safe and supportive environment, where effort and hard-work, as well as success, is celebrated.
